Carol Johnson

Russellville

Carol Joy Johnson made heaven a little brighter when she joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 11, 2024. Born on November 18, 1934 in Webb, Mississippi to Ebbie and Myrtle Tapley. The family relocated to Pasadena, Texas where she attended Pasadena High School. Carol married James (Jimmy) Elmo Johnson in 1955 and enjoyed 54 years together until his passing in 2009.

Carol is survived by her brother, Byron Tapley,Ph.D.; her children, Rhonda Houck, Karen Van Zandt, Rusty Johnson and Robin Freeman; three son-in-laws, Randy Freeman, Gary Van Zandt and Bob Houck, eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Carol’s and Jimmy’s entrepreneurial spirit led them to relocate to Russellville in 1972 and establish Dependable Air Conditioning Company. Finding it difficult to find fashionable clothes to fit her petite stature, Carol opened the Elite Petite clothing store in 1990. Carol was actively involved in the Russellville business community. As a valued member of the Chamber of Commerce Carol was elected the first woman president of the Chamber in 1998. Carol was also an active member of First Baptist Church and Berean Sunday School class.

Great appreciation to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living and Gentiva Hospice for the incredible loving care they gave to Carol and her family.

Carol was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
