Jan E. Schutt, 80 of Atkins, AR passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock, AR. He was born February 21, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Don and Vicky Schutt.

He was raised in Granite Falls, Minnesota, and worked at Plews Manufacturing before moving to Russellville, AR to work for his dad at Schutt Construction Co. clearing land. He helped with the development of Lake Dardanelle, Lake Nimrod, and Greer’s Ferry Lake. Also, in his career he travelled to Mulberry and Bismark, AR; Clarksville, TN; Stockton, MO; and Meredith, CO. After the construction company closed he changed careers and went to work with his dad at Russellville Ready Mix pouring and selling concrete. After leaving the concrete business he started his career in poultry farming where he grew for Tyson Foods for 28 years. He retired from the poultry business to enjoy the farm life where he spent his time raising cattle and baling hay.

 

He was a devoted family man, a dedicated farmer, and enjoyed being outdoors going fishing and camping.

 

He is survived by the love of his life, Connie Schutt of 60 years; daughters Hollie Brown and husband Dale; Christy Hays and husband Tim; grandchildren, Lara Kersten, Beth Gray, and Rustin Hays; step-grandchildren, Amanda Morrow, Christopher Hays, Breanna Brown, and Larisa Brown; great-grandchildren, Logan Kersten, Hunter Kersten, Jaeden Kersten, and Fynlee Gray; step great-grandchildren Emberlee Duvall, Abby Duvall, Carter Hays, and Grayson Hays; his brother, Don Schutt and wife Barbara; sister Susan Siverhus and husband Ron; numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation will be 1-2pm Wednesday, July 26th, 2023 at Russellville Family Funeral with funeral service to follow at 2pm with Bro. Shane Kasper officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Hector under the direction of Russellville Family Funeral.  

 

Pallbearers are Dale Brown, Tim Hays, Rustin Hays, Don Schutt, Logan Kersten, Hunter Kersten, Jaeden Kersten, Chris Hays, and John Wagers. 

 

Honorary pallbearers are Ron Siverhus, Terry Siverhus, Kevin Siverhus, Jon Siverhus, Lanny Hoyer, Don Loefflad, Douglas Torkelson, and Dub Cole.  

 

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made in Jan’s honor to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock.
