John Lewis Childres of Russellville, AR (Center Valley) departed this earth on April 3, 2022. He was born October 5, 1922 at his parents' home which was a few miles inside Conway County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harve and Willie (Littleton) Childres, his brother, Billy Joe Childres, and the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Lorene (Norton) Childres.
In his early years, he was a farmer, then a shoe maker at Russellville Shoe Company. His final job was selling and delivering propane, first for H.M. Orsburn Gas Company, which became Sun Gas Company, and finally Synergy.
During his time on earth he survived two pandemics, (both the Spanish Influenza and COVID 19), the Great Depression, and World War II. In World War II, he served in the U.S .Navy in the Pacific on the USS Wyman (DE 38).
He enjoyed working on his farm, his antique cars, and above all going to auction sales starting when he was 5 years old.
John Childres is survived by his daughter, Patsy Childres of Russellville; son, Joe and wife Becky of Russellville; step-grandchildren, Rachel and Sharon Fowler of Pottsville and James Gasaway of Russellville, and many other beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be 6-8pm Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Russellville Family Funeral. His graveside funeral service will be 2pm Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Old Baptist Cemetery officiated by Rev. Heather Sprinkle and Mr. Sherman Murray. Arrangements are under the direction of Russellville Family Funeral.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Allerson Farmer, Boyd Foster, Bob Eubanks, Truman Swaffer, Mike Lites, Loren Eubanks.
