Mary Ellen Peak, 77 of Russellville, Arkansas, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022 at her home. She was born August 30, 1944 in the Griffin Flat community, to Travis and Verlie Rae Baker McGee. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ernest McGee; previous husband, Jody Peak; her companion, Opie Brice.
Mary grew up in Atkins. Her parents owned the Atkins Livestock Sale Barn for several years.
Mary took care of the bookkeeping for them. Every Saturday you could find her at the sale working in the office or the back stalls. She did what needed to be done to make sure the sale ran smoothly. She loved the livestock industry . She was always reminiscing about how she helped get a bill passed through the Senate, which allowed the livestock sales to be able to set their sale prices. Mary worked hard to get this legislation changed, which not only effected Arkansas, but the entire nation.
She is survived by her son, Joe Peak III and wife Tammy from Atkins; three grandchildren, Kelsey Jo Alvey and husband Reed; Katie Latham and husband Colton; Kallie Colburn; two great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Harper Latham; sister, Stella Ruth Franklin; previous daughter-in-law, Pam Smith as well as several other family and friends.
Open visitation will be Thurday 10:00-3:00 & Friday 10:00-3:00, at Russellville Family Funeral.
Her graveside visitation will be 30 minutes prior to her funeral service and burial at 10am, Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Atkins City Cemetery, under the direction of Russellville Family Funeral.
