Robert "Bob" Battershell, 89 of London, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 15, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born September 9, 1933 in Lyons, Kansas to John and Freda Roe Battershell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Evelyn Battershell; his daughter, Debra Battershell of North Little Rock, son, Ron Battershell and Sandi of London; sister, Kathleen Kimber and Leo of Kansas City, Missouri; nieces, Heather Johnson and Mike and Dawn Tangri; nephew, Tyree Kimber, no grandkids, but five grand-dogs.
He served in the US Army. He went to the Red Stone Arsenal Missile school in Huntsville, Alabama with Werner Van Brown V2 rockets. Then he went to White Sands Proving Grounds, New Mexico and San Francisco, California to work on Nike Missiles.
He raced sport cars, Lotus Ford, Austin-Healey and many more. He was a pilot and was in the Russellville Civil Patrol for 11 years. Belonged to the Valley Antique Auto Club, River Valley Gun Club and Arkansas Tin-Lizzies (Ford Model T). Bob was a Trustee at River Valley Grace Lutheran Church. He and Evelyn had many adventurous stories to tell. Lived on sail boat for 1 1/2 years. They left Houston and went up the east coast of Florida. Then came up the Tombigbee Waterway into Tennessee, Ohio, Cumberland, then hit the Mississippi River, made a right turn into Arkansas to Russellville.
He had many talents. Bob had an amateur class radio license. Self taught electrical engineer, mechanical engineer. In 2005, he built an electric car and drove it many miles and was even on National Television with it.
His visitation will be 5-7pm. Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Russellville Family Funeral. The funeral service will be 11am, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at River Valley Grace Lutheran Church in Lamar with Pastor Tom Bartzach officiating. Burial will be private in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Russellville Family Funeral.
In honor of Bob, memorials may be made to River Valley Grace Lutheran Church in Lamar.
