Shannon Brock (Statler) Haney, 54 died peacefully in her home in Atkins, Arkansas, on November 17, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born September 14, 1970 in Russellville, Arkansas to Vernon and Carolyn Statler.
Shannon was a proud resident of Atkins and a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Atkins. She graduated from Atkins High School, where she was a majorette, a member of the tennis team, and crowned Miss Atkins in 1988. Upon graduation, Shannon worked as a hairstylist before pursuing a career in education. She earned her bachelor's degree in 2004 from Arkansas Tech University in History Education. Shannon returned to her alma matter to become a passionate and dedicated middle school social studies teacher, later transferring to high school. Her vast knowledge of history enabled her to instill the value of the past in the students she taught. One constant throughout her career was her love for the school and students. Her entire profession revolved around supporting her students, such as becoming a cheer sponsor, a class sponsor, the organizer of homecoming, and numerous other school activities. Supporting the Red Devils was one of her favorite pastime. She was probably the proudest, some would say loudest, fan in the stands.
Shannon embodied a young spirit but an old soul. She was known for her vibrant personality and quick wit, seeming to always find humor in any situation. those who knew her mother knew she was truly her mother's daughter. Being the baby sister, there was no shortage of love and attention throughout her life, and this shined through her personality. Creativity and style were a natural art for her. She loved music and old movies, never missing a chance to quote a line. Being a vintage enthusiast, she was always searching for a great find. She considered her husband, Philip, her ultimate treasure.
At the center of Shannon's life were her husband, children, and family. She cherished and embraced every moment with them. Whether she was shopping and visiting flea markets with her daughter or cheering on her son at sporting events, she never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Shannon's nieces and nephews hold many fond memories of growing up with her, to them she was the "fun aunt". She especially loved her role as "Gigi".
Shannon leaves behind her husband of 34 years, Philip Haney; children, Sarah Ketchum and husband Lance, Seth Haney and wife Sydney; granddaughter, Emilia Ketchum; sisters, Sheila Lemley and husband Tommy, Tracey Geren and husband Jeff; brother Jamie Statler and wife Kim; sister-in-law Susan Chronister and husband Bobby; numerous nieces and nephews, and close family friend Jacque Reed. She is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, Carroll Berman and Wanda Haney.
